day of the dead

There seems to be so much going on these days. We just got back from Toronto. My parents visited (again). We had a Halloween Party. Then…BAM! It was the work week. Honestly, I’m so tired it seems like this week might be getting the best of me. Regardless though, today is a special holiday: Día de los Muertos, or more commonly, the Day of the Dead.

Now, I’m not an expert (yet) but my understanding is that the purpose of this holiday is “to maintain connections with the deceased in thoughts and prayers and set aside time each year to honor the life of deceased loved ones… Just because someone passes from this earthly life doesn’t mean they stop being an integral part of the family or community.” So for today, this one day a year, I think I will set aside just a few minutes to think about the loved ones that are no longer here and celebrate their lives while looking forward to the warmth of the holidays and a new year. I hope you’ll do the same.

It’s a lovely thought. To have been loved and be missed.
